Big Kahuna A/BB
Little Kahuna B
Fun Kahuna C/Rec
A spot for every team level
We try to stay hands off, but we do need to monitor the flights.
Please understand that while we truly want to keep your team happy and say Yes,
we have an obligation to keep every team in a flight happy.

We welcome teams offering their opinions on player and team rankings.
Please understand that it does come down to our judgment as tournament directors - we strive to be fair and ethical.
Things that are not relevant to playing down a flight:
"We're just going have fun." (Everyone is just going just to have fun.)
"We're going to be drinking": (Everyone is drinking.)
"Player X is coming off of an injury". (Uh-huh. We have to go by the player they are on paper.)
"Player Y hasn't played in 9 months". (Uh-huh. We have to go by the player they are on paper.)
"Last time you let Player Z play in B." (Uh-huh. Might have been a mistake; we try to not make those.)

TEAM MAKE UPS
Big Kahuna A/BB flight = Coed 4s
Any combination of A and BB players of either sex.
Please no more forming of Super Kick Everyone's Butt AAA Avengers squads - we're past that point in Funk Rocky Pt history (take the egos and set the time machine to the 2009-2018 era.)
When the flight gets to 14 teams total, teams are separated into Gold A and Silver BB for the playoffs,
from pool play records.
Little Kahuna B flight = Coed 4s
Any combination of B players of either sex.
A single A level player may be allowed if the whole team equation is deemed B level.
When the flight gets to 14 teams total, teams will be separated into Gold Little K and Silver Little K for the playoffs, from pool play records.
**Little Kahuna flight is Intermediate level rules
PLEASE READ below, friends
This flight is VERY, very different from Recreational level in that the FULL CLEAN RULES OF SAND BALL HANDLING ARE ENFORCED.
Players are 100% expected to understand and abide by Clean Hands Rules in Little Kahuna.
Be sure that your team understands what is meant by:
- "no double contacts"
- "no open hands = ball spinning defense/passing/shooting" (this indicates double contact in sand)
- "hand sets and open hands passing and defense must be CLEAN and not spin - have only a very gentle rotation"
- "hits on ball must have a clear rebound off the hand and in no way be thrown or pushed or given finger english"
If you do not know exactly what these rules mean, f they seem weird or too rigid, that is A-OK and
it is a good indicator that you want the Fun Kahuna flight - and we do have that!
If the Clean Rules of Sand Play sound like a drag, over burdensome, if you "just want to play and have fun without the technical rules", that is A-OK - and you want the Fun Kahuna flight - and we do have that!
Please ASK if you are unsure what we are talking about.
Fun Kahuna C/Rec = Coed 4s or 5s or 6s
*Biggest difference is the absence of stricter ball handling rules in Fun Kahuna
(see the rules page for full details)
Fun Kahuna flight does not call double contact (two open hands ball spinning ball contact), open hand finger pushes, lifts and carries and light throws/pushes up.
Typical recreational fun play ball handling habits, in other words.
The Little Kahuna Intermediate flight does, in contrast, have stricter ball handling rules.
Teams may have 4, 5 or 6 players on the sand at a time - their choice
*With 4 or 5 players - 1 female minimum
* 6 players requires 2 females minimum
No more than 1 single B level player allowed on a 4 player team
No more than 2 B level players on a 6 player team
Teams will be separated into Gold C and Silver Rec for the playoffs, from pool play records
(with at least 16 teams total registered)
