-Rules
Q: Are all girl teams allowed?
A: Heck yes! Fan favorites!
Q: Can we have more than 4 players on a team?
A: You may have up to 6 players on your roster.
Just be sure to understand the rules: all of your players must rotate in on the serve, every game, equally.
Teams may not use players as spare tire fresh legs to tag team in when a teammate gets tired.
Teams may not use some players one game and others in a different game; everyone plays every game.
We must show all opponents the same version of your team.
- Teams rock/paper/scissors for serve or receive choice each game.
- Teams switch net sides ONCE when one team reaches 11 points
- A block does NOT count as a touch (Block + 3)
For Big Kahuna & Little Kahuna flights
- Full clean rules of sand play are observed - no lifts, carries or double contacts.
- SETS ARE CALLED CLEAN - no spinning double contacts
- Rec rules and Rec/C ball handling are NOT going to fly in the Little Kahuna flight - BE AWARE
* Please understand clearly: you are expected to understand and abide by FULL CLEAN ball handling RULES
in Little Kahuna.
Please be aware that some leagues in Phoenix do not teach or enforce correct and clean rules of ball handling
for their leagues, even ones labeled "Upper" or "B" - so you may not be up to speed.
Please read below and ask us (480-620-3935) if you have any doubts.
- Ball must be contacted crisp and rebound off of hands - no sticky finger directs (throws).
- No open finger dinks/pushes allowed (common in indoor).
- Serves may not be received with two open fingered hands (aka "set") (also common in indoor).
- Two rigid hands are OK for serve receives (as long as it is not a double contact foul)
- Attacking the serve is a foul (an attack is breaking the horizontal plane of the top of the net to spike or block the serve back).
- ANY net contact at all is a foul and point for the opponent.
- Contact with an opponent under the net that impedes their play is a foul and point for them.
- Passing or defense with two open hands IS OK, as long as it is clean and not a double contact
(commonly judged by spin).
*Contrary to popular myth, a ball does not have to play off of the hands dead perfect motionless to be clean - just needs to not be a double contact.
- A hard driven ball (spiked with velocity) may be momentarily lifted or double contacted without penalty.
- Shooting attack the ball (intentionally shoot setting the ball over the net) is permissible if done cleanly:
not a double contact (spinning) and shoulders are square to the trajectory of the ball.
Rules for the Fun Kahuna flight
We do not call most ball handling fouls for Rec/C - double contact, lifts, carries, open hand dinks and light throws upward.
- ANY net contact and ANY under the net opponent contact is a FOUL - play stops and point for opponent.
This is imperative and for safety.
- Attacking the serve is a foul (blocking or spiking the serve back)
- "Throwing" (using fingers to direct or push the ball) is permissible when passing or over the net in an upward arc.
But a ball may not be "thrown" or shoved down for a point.
A point is NOT awarded, play is redone.

The Bye Bye Beverage (sweet!)
This groovy little custom has become a favorite part of the tournament day experience.
We mix up 20 gallons of different magic elixir each time of a tasty, strong, adult beverage.
Every player gets their complimentary 16 oz solo cup of bliss when they come in for their team photo to put a period on the tourney, soothe losing feelings and close the day out with a team "salud!", as the sun goes down over the sea.

FOOD
Every condo has full sized & equipped kitchens. Stoves & ovens, microwaves, full size refrigerators. Citron restaurant is also on site in Phase 2. The pool bar also serves food. And Saturday features these special adds: - Breakfast burrito bar at the beach entrance Saturday morning - Taco stands all tournament long at beach entrance ICE Although there is a small store over in Phase I, we recommend buying a good supply of ice at a convenience mart on your way in through the town. |
Then keep the happy flowing after the tournament!
Clean up and join the good vibrations at the Funkalicious Saturday night after tourney party at our
most excellent partner spot - Wrecked at The Reef.
Wrecked is a left turn out of Las Palomas and a quick 3.1 mile hop to the jetty at the end of "resort row" past the other condo resorts.
Wrecked is a BIG place. Lots of inside seating, with a killer house band that gets everyone's booty shaking.
Outdoors is a huge, three level sand and deck area with lots of seating and fresh evening sea breezes caressing as you get your buzz on, chill and enjoy the company.
1st and 2nd place tourney winners win Wrecked bucks to spend!
