ACE FORMAT DETAILS = FUN is #1
The ACE game gained much of its popularity during the legendary Funkalicious Rocky Point events from 2009 on.
The custom became that on Sundays, following the "serious" tourney the day before, players stocked coolers with Mexican cerveza and conducted loosely controlled experiments in sand craziness and net antics.
This Funk Mexico beach tradition of merriment is resurrected for Bernie's Birthday!
Three hits per team and basic rules still apply.
However, a LOT of the rest comes from an alternate volleyball multi-verse.
Very little is called.
KEY ELEMENT:
NEVER EVER LET THE BALL HIT THE SAND WITHOUT SOME TOUCH ON IT.
IF... a ball does hit the sand without a touch by a player, that is an "ACE".
1. The team who got "Aced", in addition to losing the point, must retreat to the sidelines and consume an entire can of beer, sharing it between all team members.
Q: Must I drink the beer?
A: Absolutely not - we shall have non-alcoholic options available if you find yourself on the victim's side of an "ACE"
2. The opposing team who scored the ACE serves IMMEDIATELY as soon as ANY one of their players' feet/toes touched the court sand.
The serving team's goal is to try to score another ACE by catching their victims unawares.
For this reason, it is crucial for the "ACED" victim team to retain control of the ball, in order to control when the opponent holds it, AS WELL AS to ensure that all team members simultaneously hop onto the sand - because the goons on the other side are about to serve as soon as they see a toe drop - ANY toe.
3. Inevitable inebriation and consequential diminishment of skills becomes a part of the game.
**Of course - no one is forced to drink beer. Exceptions are made for clean & sober participants**
Um, WHO pays for the beer???
4. $5 of every player's registration fee goes to the cerveza ACE fund.
So our budget of $170 (includes a tip for the bar) will determine the bounty of ACE beer we can stock the cooler with.

A new team every game!
You will play with 3 new teammates every game - a total of 12 different teammates over 4 pool play games.
Your playoff team is determined by pool play records. The top 4 players are Team 1, next 4 are Team 2, and so on.
GAMES
4 Pool play games + double elimination playoffs
6 games minimum for all
All games to 21 with no cap
LEVEL
Wide open to all levels. Everyone will suck by the end.
RULES
ACE can be a wild orgy of wooly bedlam.
Rules are "fluid", with a discouragement on anything that constricts player creativity.
Bernard and I are still working out full details, but expect:
Minimal constraints on the typical fouls such as lifts, pushes, double contacts, throws, net contact.
However, we MUST preserve SAFETY. Wavers will be signed.
